The jock straps were donned, the Jell-o shots were organized, the raffle prizes were announced, and the students and supporters all came out in force to make Jock Sunday at the Lookout Bar in San Francisco on Sunday April 20th a roaring success. The weekly event, sponsored by Gloss Magazine raises much needed funds for local LGBT sports groups, and last Sunday, TMAA benefited from the event. "The event was a lot of fun," says Grand Master Ken Craig, President of TMAA. "Everyone seemed to have a good time and we raised $960 during the four hour event with sales of Jell-o shots and raffle tickets."

While most sports teams show up in their team uniforms, TMAA decided to have fun and increase the entertainment value of the event by having a six students actually wearing only jock straps as they sold shots and raffle tickets throughout the day. "This was a fun way for us to let the community know who we are, what we do, that we can play just as hard as we train, and to hopefully encourage some new students to give us a try" continued Grand Master Craig. "We are constantly looking for new ways to reach out to different parts of our community, and Jock Sunday provided a fun, novel, and interesting way to do that. We are certainly looking forward to participating in our second Jock Sunday at some point in the future."
Of the $960 raised during the event, $450 will be allocated to the TMAA Athlete Assistance Fund (AAF) which helps financially challenged students to attend local and international tournaments and seminar events. "Much of this money will undoubtedly go towards helping some of our students to attend the Gay Games VIII event which will held in Cologne, Germany in 2010" said Eugene Wong, TMAA Gay Games 8 Coordinator. "These funds, and others we will raise in the next few years, will be vital to helping some of our less fiscally able students to participate in, and support the games. Without this type of assistance funding, their participation would most likely be impossible." Jock Sundays are held every Sunday afternoon between 4pm and 7pm at the Lookout Bar, 3388 Market at 16th Street in San Francisco. Check it out next time you are in San Francisco on any Sunday afternoon. Undoubtedly, you will be supporting a fellow LGBT sports team, and you may just be supporting TMAA.
