"Building a better tomorrow, By starting today"
INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL DIRECTOR GRAND MASTER KEN CRAIG KCTO, TOMS, ECSM, DCSM, PMA
JIM GARDNER MASTER MIKE STOYKA Asst. ITD Dep. Asst. ITD INTRODUCTION TaeKwon-Do is an art of skill, balance, coordination, power, and energy. With time, patience, and constant practice you will find that the techniques will become increasingly easier to apply while being extremely powerful and effective when needed. Tae Kwon Do translated means roughly the way (Do) of the foot (Tae) and the fist (Kwon). TaeKwon-Do is characterized as a 'hard' style art. This means it generally utilizes force equal or greater than that applied by the opponent to disable them or mitigate their attack. The origins of TaeKwon-Do date back many centuries and through several Korean dynasties. Under several lenghty periods of Japanese occupation however, the indigenous Korean martial arts systems were supressed and resurrected frequently. In 1955, following World War II and the Korean war, General Choi, Hong Hi utilized modern science and his knowledge of the prior Korean, Chinese, and Japanese systems of martial art to develop the modern martial art now known as TaeKwon-Do. While the TaeKwon-Do community has become fractured, with many opposing entities struggling for dominance, here at Triangle we recognize and accept all systems and welcome instructors and students from whatever system they initially worked with. Our philosophy is to take the best from each of these entities, and to modify or avoid the more negative aspects. STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS As with all Triangle disciplines, Triangle TaeKwon-Do is designed for and available to everyone. Underlying physical abilities are developed so that students can gain adequate skills to protect themselves in a defensive situation. We will work individually with students to maximize their ability and progression. The system itself is relatively physical in terms of running, jumping, and spinning however as with all Triangle systems, adaptions are made and adjustments employed for instructors and students who have limitations. Triangle TaeKwon-Do is an excellent discipline to learn on its own, and it is a very complimentary discpline to study alongside the 'softer' arts such as HapKi-Do, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu etc. LINK TO OUR DISCIPLINE CURRICULUM PAGES Please click on the link below to jump to our Triangle TaeKwon-Do student curriculum and information pages. http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/TriangleMartialArts/files/TMAA%20TaeKwon-Do%20Documents/
